While FDA approval of two Covid-19 vaccines offers real hope for a return to normalcy in 2021, Americans are still dealing with an unprecedented level of stress and uncertainty until we get there. To provide help and hope, the City of New York has a free, confidential resource, NYC Well, with counselors available 24/7 to anyone struggling mentally or emotionally.
The service is designed for anyone dealing with a problem like stress, depression, anxiety, or drug and alcohol use, as well as for anyone searching for help for a loved one in crisis. They can use the service to speak to a counselor via phone, text, or chat and get access to mental health and substance-use services. Interpreters are available in more than 200 languages.
New Yorkers can call NYC Well directly or visit its website to see the phone, text, and chat options. The website also includes a database of local behavioral health and substance-use services, as well as an app library for visitors who want to explore the world of mental health and wellness on their own or build on the skills taught by NYC Well staff. To contact NYC Well, call 888-NYC-WELL (888-692-9355) or visit NYCWell.CityOfNewYork.us.
