Acne Is Treatable with Proper Protocol and Commitment

by Dr. Mariana Boneva

bonevaOver the past 10 years, the number of my clients who continue to suffer from acne long after puberty has progressively increased. Most of them are women who have tried nearly everything to fix the problem, from over-the-counter and prescription medication to light-based procedures. They finally come to me because they haven’t seen any significant results.

Dealing with acne is one of the most complex and prolonged dermatological treatments. It requires a thorough and comprehensive analysis of the factors causing the acne. Established methods and procedures for treatment exist on the market, yet the number of acne sufferers continues to increase.

From my experience with patients, I have identified three major reasons people suffer from chronic acne:

  • an improper treatment approach by professionals
  • a lack of information about the factors that cause acne, resulting in its continued presence
  • the use of inappropriate products and tools, resulting in a worsened condition
By sharing how I have successfully cured my clients’ acne, I want to help others who are still suffering. The most important notion that people need to understand is that acne is curable.

The first step to my approach is to classify the type of acne my client has. Acne can have three main causes: bacterial, hormonal or androgenic. Once I have identified the type, I devise a gradual treatment plan, taking into account the many critical factors that can interfere with treatment. I’ve found that it’s important to help clients understand that getting significant and lasting results takes time and effort. It requires discipline and strict adherence to my prescribed treatment plan. The plan incorporates the following elements:

  • an individually tailored diet correction
  • a set of instructions for daily cleaning and nourishing with appropriate products
  • stress reduction, usually through relaxation programs like yoga or meditation
  • the elimination of bad habits (smoking, alcohol, drugs, acid suppressants, anti-inflammatories, etc.)
  • body-cleansing procedures and the rebalancing of gastrointestinal bacteria
Diet plays a significant role in treating acne. A number of nutritional foods are available to nourish the skin. Vitamins and minerals work best if they come directly from fruits, vegetables and whole-grain foods, but organic, plant-based supplements can work as well. The vitamins crucial for acne reduction are A, B-complex, C, E, chromium and zinc. In general, people with acne-prone skin should avoid all processed carbs, dairy, corn, sweets, spicy food and soda.

Spicy foods, for example, cause a rise in body temperature that starts an inflammatory reaction. Sweets, on the other hand, trigger oil secretion through the skin, and those are the exact oils that trap the dirt and bacteria that cause acne.

The most important component in my practice is my clients’ full dedication to and belief in the successful outcome of their treatment. Regardless of the treatments’ duration and the effort required, this is absolutely vital. The belief is what we build together, based on mutual trust and a commitment to excellence.

Acne can be painful and psychologically humiliating, and that’s why I have chosen to share my philosophy with you. Over my many years of experience, it has been proven effective by the countless lives I’ve changed through my practice.
