U.S. Farmers Plant More GMO Crops

e0613ac3e813b1af9bc3d70e8c5392bbFarmers in the U.S. added 12 million more acres of genetically modified (GM or GMO) crops in 2013, reports Clive James, with the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications, and now lead the world in their production by volume. Even as many U.S. consumers reject foods containing GM ingredients, many farmers continue to embrace the technology.
“In general, choosing GM seed is an economic decision for farmers,” says North Dakota Farmers’ Union President Mark Watne, who grows corn, soy and wheat in Minot. “If you give them a tool to battle weeds at a reasonable cost, they adopt it.” Source: USA Today
