Free Intro Session of ‘Awakening Your True Voice’ Offered October 25

On October 25 at 6 p.m., renowned voice teacher Jean McClelland will offer a free Zoom introductory session of her upcoming Open Center course, Awakening Your True Voice: Health and Vitality through Better Breathing. The paid six-week course—set for consecutive Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m., from November 1 through December 6—explores the connection between breathing, voice, and artistic self-expression.

McClelland has been teaching and performing for more than 40 years. In addition, she’s a 30-year senior teacher of the Alexander Technique, and one of the few people personally selected by Carl Stough to teach his principles of breathing coordination.

In Awakening Your True Voice, participants will learn lasting ways to relieve vocal and physical tension and increase ease and vitality in their bodies. In the process, they will discover their authentic voice—one that is spontaneous, open, and expressive.

“Participants will gain a repertoire of tools and exercises that they can use for a lifetime of exploration to strengthen their breathing and voices,” McClelland says. “They will be given copious supporting materials, both written materials and videos, that they can consult to help them carry on the work at home in addition to the recording of the class. It is my hope that they will leave each class feeling more grounded in their being, more knowledgeable about their bodies and breathing, and more aware that it is their body that ‘sings you.’”
