Business Spotlight: Nature's Dental

Nature’s Dental Long Island dentist ahead of the curve on preserving natural teeth

In 2013, when Dr. Olga Isaeva opened her Long Island practice, Nature’s Dental, the concept of conservative and minimally invasive dentistry was still outside the mainstream. Eight years later, it’s clear that Isaeva was ahead of the curve. There’s now a big demand for this approach to dental care, she says.

“Many people are starting to seek out the alternatives to traditional medicine and dentistry,” says Isaeva (“Dr. Olga” to her patients). “We have expanded our trained biomimetic staff to keep up with the demand.”

The philosophy of the biomimetic approach is “Less dentistry is the best dentistry.” It uses nature-mimicking technology to restore teeth to their original state, one small layer at a time. The ultimate goal is to retain as much of the natural tooth structure as possible, reducing the need for root canals and crowns.

“There are alternative ways to save teeth without crowns, because many crowns lead to root canals, which in turn may lead to chronic dental infection and tooth loss,” Isaeva explains.

That’s important because the physiological connection between oral health and whole-body health is by now well established.

“There is an overwhelming connection,” Isaeva says. “Gut health is tremendously important to the overall health of the body—and as we know, the gut starts in the mouth. Optimum oral health is the foundation for a healthy body.”

What she calls “the healthy body, healthy mind formula” has several components. They include a balanced oral microbiome; controlled or treated periodontal disease; restoration of decayed teeth; replacing of heavy metal (mercury-filled) teeth or metal crowns; and, most important, treatment of infected teeth.

EPIC Approach to Care

Isaeva has practiced general dentistry since 2007. She is also a board-certified naturopath. At Nature’s Dental she’s developed an “EPIC” approach to dentistry focused on Education (about topics such as “silver” amalgam fillings, which contain mercury); Prevention (through treatments like probiotics and oxygen ozone therapy); Integration (of holistic therapies such as reiki and massage); and Conservation (through minimally invasive procedures).

She’s also developed a patient-oriented culture in her practice, where the staff treats everyone—including each other—“with care, compassion and understanding,” she says. “We all take great pride in what we do and are eager to educate and help clients, one smile at a time.”

Isaeva doesn’t just treat patients the way she wants to be treated; she also eats the way she advises her patients to.

“I prepare most of my meals from scratch,” she says. “I try to eat clean, only utilizing whole-food ingredients—nothing that comes from the box or a can. In the summer, I strive to grow my own greens and veggies. It’s always great to connect with nature and tend to the soil.

We’re grateful to be situated on Long Island, surrounded by farms. We always recommend buying local and getting to know your farmers personally.”

After all, she says, “You are what you eat—and you are what your food eats.”
