Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. Teaches Personal Freedom in New York
“The ancient Toltecs believed that life as we perceive it is a dream,” Ruiz says. “We each live in our own personal dream, and all our dreams come together to make the dream of the planet. Problems arise when we believe that we have no control over the dream.” Ruiz uses this philosophy to explain how we can wake up, liberate ourselves from illusory beliefs and stories and live as our true, loving selves—not only in solitude and meditation, but in any place or situation. “A spiritual journey … is an inward journey to heal the wounds that conditional love has left in our life in order to bring harmony back into our personal dream. When we reach an apex of such a journey, we begin to work with the dream of the planet. We don’t live in a monastery or ashram or isolated on a hill; we live in our community, with the people we love and work with.”
Ruiz says he took lessons he learned from his father and grandmother to discover his own personal freedom. In his workshop, he applies those lessons to everyday life, to “heal and bring harmony into the dream that we co-create with everyone in our lives, starting with ourselves.”
