Most Health Issues Are Stress Related

higher-brain-imageBy Steven Giron, PhD

While stress is the number-one reported struggle for most people, stress is not inherently bad. In fact, it’s necessary to human survival. When certain structures in the brain (the amygdala and hypothalamus) perceive a threat to survival, they signal the adrenal glands to send cortisol and epinephrine to the cells. That’s the “fight-or-flight” response.

But non-life-threatening situations are still perceived by the lower, reptilian brain as dangerous, triggering the stress response even to imaginary threats.

Dr. Sara Gottfried, a Harvard-educated physician, spent a decade researching and treating patients with hormone imbalances, working with more than 22,000 clients to restore their hormonal balance, energy, focus and health. She discovered that the unhealthy production of cortisol is at the root of nearly every hormone and health issue. Of her 22,000 clients, she says, 91 percent of them had a cortisol imbalance.

“All hormonal problems lead back to cortisol,” she says.

Persistent elevated cortisol levels—a common symptom of constant perceived stress—results in real problems, from weight gain, depression and a decreased libido to gastrointestinal and cardiovascular disease.

Fortunately, the solutions to manage stress in transformative ways are also real. When cortisol is in the “Goldilocks zone”—just right—we feel happier, resilient and energetic and experience healthier weight, sleep and sex drive.

With practice, we can regulate our perception of stress, calm the hormonal fury and help our body return to balance.

The Higher Brain Living® system has been shown to be a quick, sustainable way to significantly turn down the stress response. Clients report living in the “Goldilocks zone” and thriving, not just surviving.
