The Big Apple Turns Green on April 20-21

After an exciting and successful inaugural year in 2012 in the Big Apple, Green Festival, the nation’s largest and most trusted green living event will kick off its 12th year by bringing the New York City green community together again for the second time on Earth Day weekend. To celebrate its second year Green Festival will also launch its first New York City business-to-business (B2B) Green Trade Day on the eve of the festival weekend, Friday, April 19, 2013 from 3-7 P.M. at Javits Center North. The afternoon will allow retail and wholesale buyers to conduct business with Green Festival exhibitors before they open its doors to consumers.

This year’s festival features enlightening and inspiring panel discussions with such notable experts as Frances Moore Lappe, author of Diet for a Small Planet and the upcoming EcoMind, Jim Hightower, national radio commentator and author of the book, Swim Against The Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go With The Flow, Katrina vanden Huevel, editor of The Nation, and Daniel Pinchbeck, founder of Reality Sandwich and Evolver, in addition to other influential and engaging leaders in the environmental community, including speakers, entrepreneurs and activists. Green Festival will also bring back many of the exciting features from last year’s event, including an organic beer and wine pavilion, a large food court featuring delicious, healthy food, a Green Kids’ Zone with activities for the youngest eco-warriors, and a unique marketplace of more than 300 eco-friendly businesses, featuring the latest and greatest in sustainable products and services.

In true New York fashion, the weekend closes out on a stylish note with the Recycled Runway show, featuring ecofriendly designs created by the talented students at New York City’s own Parsons the New School for Design.

Once again, FORD Motor Company is partnering with Green Festivals and Local nonprofits have the opportunity to enter Green Festival partner FORD Motor Company’s Community Green Grant competition for the chance to win $5,000. Runners-up will each receive $1,000. Last year’s New York City winner was Green City Force, a nonprofit dedicated to helping connect urban young adults with sustainable and eco-focused projects throughout the city. In addition, FORD will also offer Green Festival attendees the chance to test-drive their hybridand electric vehicles at the FORD Ride and Drive experience.

Held in the LEED-certified North Pavilion of the Jacob Javits Center, on 11th Ave. and 38th St., Green Festival is the only green event that screens exhibitors for their commitment to sustainability, ecological balance and social justice using co-producer, Green America’s green business standards. Tickets are $15 per day and $25 for a full weekend pass.

Tickets and fan passes can be purchased online for a discount at www.greenfestivals.org. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the show. All tickets provide access to exhibit floor, workshops, speakers and films. Keep it green and ride your bike to the event for free admission – and park your bike in the Green Festival Bike Valet.
