Yoga Freedom Project is a January 2012 initiative to raise awareness and funds to put an end to sex trafficking.
Off The Mat NYC is partnering with The Somaly Mam Foundation to create a global yoga month to raise awareness and support the work of The Somaly Mam Foundation. Somaly Mam is a sex trafficking survivor who has dedicated her life to rescuing victims and empowering survivors. Money raised from this initiative will go to support SMF’s empowerment programs of education, skills training, and advocacy and awareness campaigns.
Yoga studios and individuals all over the works are holding donation based classes, selling jewelry made by survivors, selling Somaly Mam’s memoir and creating their own unique ways to raise money. In NYC, the month will end with a huge 108 Sun Salutation celebration on January 31st with teachers Elena Brower, Dana Flynn, Alan Finger, Dharma Mittra, Sierra Bender and many more.
